IDLab-DISCOVER is a research team focused on the following areas:

  • Cloud, Edge and IoT for AI: Managing, connecting and securing complex software in the cloud and on devices for AI-based applications. Advanced Kubernetes orchestration of highly distributed scalable and secure applications. Improving IoT developer workflows using WebAssembly, ensuring supply-chain security with Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and remote attestation.
  • Network intrusion detection: realtime, scalable and generalizable intrusion detection with AI. High-performance network feature extraction on Linux.
  • AR, VR and XR: Low-latency streaming for real-time and immersive XR applications. Dynamic QoE adaptation based on network conditions.
  • Scalable AI Data: Scalable data processing for AI in environments with complex ownership and permissions. High-performant time-series data storage, processing and querying. Scalable Solid server / storage solutions. 
  • Gamification: Gamification and serious games with applications in healthcare and more.

 

We have extensive experience designing, prototyping and standardizing software solutions in these areas. We have a proven track record of working on state of the art open source platforms and standards including:

  • Service orchestrators such as Kubernetes and Ubuntu Juju
  • Container technologies such as Docker, WebAssembly System Interface (WASI) and Snap
  • Web technologies such as the Solid project
  • Intrusion Detection Systems on Linux such as RustiFlow using eBPF

 

We have over 20 years of experience working on research projects in collaboration with industry and the public sector in a number of different ways:

  • National, European and global research projects
  • Contract-based research and scientific consultancy with the public and private sector
  • Education including industry-focussed lifelong learning and higher education
